Environmental Project

Using Graphic Displays

Objective:

Choose an Environmental Issue:

Choices :

·         Endangered Species (general or focus on one particular species)

·         Saving the Rainforest ( or wetlands or any other biome in danger)

·         Wildlife Conservation ( national parks, reserves, hunting)

·         Pollution (air, water)

·         Global Climate Change

·         Energy Conservation (alternate fuels, hybrid cars, the “green” movement)

·         Waste Management (recycling, landfills, toxic waste, etc)

·         Genetically modified crops and animals

 Research:

You must have at least 8 different sites that relate to your topic.  These sites must  be noted on a bibliography page.

Your research must include…

  1. What is the problem?
  2. What evidence do we have that supports that a problem exists? What causes the problem?
  3. What are the possible future effects of the problem?  How will it affect the world?
  4. What is being done to solve the problem?  Are there laws related to the topic?
  5. What can an individual do to help.

These sites must be noted on a bibliography page.

Use "Notebook" in EasyBib: Make a card for each of the research questions above.

Presentation:

Use presentation software or a Web 2.0 tool to display your research.

Your research MUST include at least 2 different displays (chart, line graph , circle graph, bar graph)

A total of 10 "slides" is appropriate to strive for.  You can have more if needed.

The sequence of your slides can follow the suggested outline.

Presentation Outline:

Slide 1: Title and Name

Slide 2: Attention grabber! Put a thought provoking question or image there.

Slide 3 – 5 : Explain the topic: What is the problem? Why is it a problem? Use images/graphs/charts to illustrate your words. Do not put too many words on any one slide.

Slides 6 – 8: Explain what can be done, ( or is already being done) to solve the problem. Include any special laws or regulations that have been put into place. Again you can use images/graphs/charts to illustrate your words.

Slides 9 10: What can a person do to help? Offer advice and tips to the class about how the problem can be alleviated or ways to promote awareness.
